Sight Words
Trick words or sight words are high frequency words that students can recognize automatically in their reading. These are words that may not follow the rules of phonics and are unable to be decoded by using strategies.
Students will be given a list of 10 trick words every other week to practice reading and spelling. At the end of the week, students will be tested on the spelling of these words. Students will have time to practice spelling and using these words during reading. They will complete different activities that include building, saying, writing, matching, and even typing trick words.
Students who master all second grade trick words will move on to practicing these words in phrases to build fluency during reading.
